The Colors of Motion is an exploration of the use of color in movies. Each line represents the average color of a single frame.
By stacking the frames from top to bottom, we get a timeline of the use of color throughout the film.
We use the colors from each movie to make beautiful prints, which you can shop for on our site.
Can't find your favorite movie? Contact us to request it! We'll add to our list of movies to process!
The Colors of Motion was created, designed and developed by Charlie Clark.
The Colors of Motion is an ongoing project. It started out as a data visualization, a fun way to explore color in movies. In 2015 the project won a webby. Eventually, by popular demand, we started selling prints on Etsy. Now we've got a single app that lets you explore the colors and shop for prints all in one place.
